Tuesday, August 27th | 12:00 PM PST | 3:00 PM EST
Nationwide, chronic absenteeism is at an all-time high amongst K-12 students. Ensuring every student has their basic needs met is foundational to supporting students' overall well-being and their academic performance. Mental health is a “basic need”.
When students’ basic needs are supported, they are more likely to attend school, be engaged, and succeed academically. It's vital to recognize and address the mental health needs of chronically absent students to get them back in school as a first step, while supporting both their health and academics to enable them to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
We are bringing together a researcher and expert on absenteeism, several Superintendents, and a pediatrician and public health leader to discuss how districts can support the mental health of students to address the chronic absenteeism crisis and drive better health and learning outcomes.
